"A Timely Exchange"

Background:

Marion McDaniel Lodge 56 "The Duke's Lodge" has on its north wall a clock, the face of which is imprinted with a likeness of our Lodge Brother John Wayne in cowboy regalia.

During opening and closing, the Junior Warden points to said clock as he says, "the better to observe the time"
(Or as we say, "the better to observe The Duke's time").

After planning such a move for several months, senior members of Oasis Lodge 52, "The Place To Be For Masonry", swiped "The Duke's Clock" on or about August 30, 2010.

At our September 13, 2010 Stated Meeting, sharp-eyed members of "The Duke's Lodge" noted that the Junior Warden was pointing to a white paper plate tacked to the panelling in the former position of the clock.

On closer examination, the plate gave clues as to the clock's whereabouts.

On September 14, 2010, at their Stated Meeting, our Brother Junior Warden David Brown and WB Treasurer Jeff Horton PM, retrieved the clock from the Worshipful Master of Oasis 52, "The Place To Be For Masonry", who had it "in safe keeping" inside his podium.

The Master (WB Roger Cousineau) and Secretary (WB Tim Yaiser PM) of Oasis 52 seemed to be puzzled that we were not satisfied with the "exchange" and extolled the virtues of the paper plate. Although they were nearly persuaded to the contrary, our Junior Warden and Treasurer were not taken in by this smooth talking and were able to return "The Duke's Clock" to its rightful location.

On November 9, 2010, members of the"The Duke's Lodge" attended the Oasis 52 "Open Education Session" before their Stated Meeting and presented, within a beautiful blue presentation box, a special clock with inscribed plaque.

The clock face features Barney Fife, Mayberry's Deputy Sheriff from "The Andy Griffith Show".

The plaque, hanging intentionally off the level, is inscribed:
BARNEY: "I knew you guys weren't on the level."

And is dedicated:
To: Our Brothers At "The Place To Be In Mayberry"
From: Your Brothers At "The Duke's Lodge"

The obverse side of the plaque identifies the episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" from which the quote is spoken, Episode 102 - "Black Day For Mayberry", originally aired November 11, 1963 (47 years earlier, less two days).

It also identifies that this is "Marion McDaniel 56 vs Oasis 52" Episode 1, "The Duke's Clock Exchanged" August 30, 2010
