"Destinations are where we begin, again." Whither your destination, Brother?
From Worshipful Master Donald A. Milligan PM
My Brothers,
I wish everyone a Healthy and Prosperous New Year of 2013. Our Lodge has lots of good things working for it
right now. I assure you that no drastic measures will be made but some tweaking of things needs to be done.
Hopefully, with your support we can make some changes for the good of our Lodge and the Fraternity in
general.
Membership is slowly increasing, and everyone is taking pride in their degree work, personal
appearance, gaining more confidence in memory work, letting younger lodge members jump in and work in
order to free Past Masters to mentor those needing it, and just enjoying the side lines. Although Past Masters
are the backbone of our fraternity, our "younger" members need to feel encouraged to jump into those jobs the
PMs have been doing so that they can gain experience and Masonic working knowledge.
We need to visit other
lodges more, beat the drum of pride we all have to everyone who will listen, and get more candidates through
education to the community. Some may think that I am mean and ugly (ha, ha, ha) but I would like to think of
myself as firm, fair, friendly, fraternal (and some more F's probably). But do not let any of that deter you from
communicating with me concerning any and all things you deem necessary. After all, that is how we learn and
get things done.
Remember your Lodge is only there when you are in it! So please come to lodge often so we
all can enjoy your presence. Brothers, we still have the best meal deal in town for stated meetings. Bring
yourself and family for some good food and fraternal relations. Bring a friend, too!
"Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all is a
form of planning". Gloria Steinem
[Ed’s Note – This explains the PMs’ post-dinner sideline dreaming.]
From the West: BR Gilbert A. Schlierer, Senior Warden
FIRST DISPATCH FROM THE WEST:
Charles Dickens said it: 'Christmas time! That man must be a misanthrope indeed, in whose breast something like a jovial feeling is not roused - in whose mind some pleasant associations are not awakened - by the recurrence of Christmas.'
I may have left behind the station of Beauty but I do hope you have had a truly beautiful Holiday and that youare readying yourself, as I am, for a year of great action at Lodge.
In the year ahead I hope we can discover the passion that motivates, both men our Lodge has not seen
participating in past years - and the passion that motivates men who may be challenged to become Lodge
members - Masons. If we can discover those passions and if we have the strength to become servants to those
men and their passions, perhaps we will see a rebirth, a growth of Marion McDaniel Lodge.
I do believe that if we cannot find a way to serve them we will not entice them back - we will not entice them into Masonry in the
first place. They will not return because of our pleading. They will not show up desiring membership because
we hold ourselves out as the one true way to a better life.
They will show up because we will have found a way
to serve the passions that move them and because w
The goal of service must be OUR true passion. I hope we
have the strength to discover the truth of that in the year ahead.
From the South: Charles R. Barnes PM, Junior Warden
Another year has come and gone and I look forward to once again sitting in the south where the sun is at meridian height (you know, where all the beauty is).
I would like to thank those Brothers that stepped up last year to assist in degree work and various committees. We as Free & Accepted Masons can only get out of Masonry what we put into it; this has been a saying from time immemorial.
So get involved, and find a mentor to help guide you into fame in our mystic circle!
Remember, YOU Are The Lodge – Bring It Back HOME!
